How Much Can You Earn in Affiliate Marketing?

There are no comprehensive statistics. You have to rely on snippets of anecdotal information, some of which could be hyped up to help sell something. You have to exercise your judgement.
In most cases income levels shown are gross earnings figures, of course, before expenses. The bigger affiliate marketers who have many web sites may be employing web site and content management staff, as well as paying for their internet access and perhaps an office. They are also likely to be paying to advertise for web traffic. Some may even be including other revenues, such as from their eBook sales.

Jeremy Palmer puts his earnings at over $1,000,000. He is reputed to operate a network of something like 100 web sites, which seems a lot for just one person to maintain, and must surely carry some expenses. But even so, that is surely a good enough salary for the rest of us to aspire to!
Rosalind Gardner claims to have earned over $500,000 in 2005.
The Affiliate Cash Cow claims to have made over $5,000 in one day on 15 December 2005. This was in the lead up to Christmas, of course, so may not be sustainable year round.
Sebastian Foss, promoting his License to Print Money, claims to be earning $900-$1500 per week for just 2 hours of work.
Chris Carpenter, the author of Google Cash, claims he makes up to $33,000 per month for only 30 minute's work each week.
Lawrence Wagerfield, of Million Dollar Affiliate, claims to be earning up to $536.53 a day.
Rob Benwell, in his Blogging To The Bank eBook, claims to have grown his blog business up to $500/day in just 30 days. While much of what he has to say is good value, his methods include a couple of techniques in steps 4 and 5 that appear to be in the "black hat" category. There is speculation in some forums that his blogs have been penalized recently by the search engines for using these techniques, so be careful if you plan to follow all of his advice.

How do you interpret these claims?
Affiliate marketing is like any other business, with both revenues and costs. Work hard at it and be persistent, and you can earn enough profit to make a very good living. With a bit of luck and talent, its a business that has a big potential upside, one that could make you rich.
